INDOOR AIR QUALITY / MOLD

West Hartford Public Schools
West Hartford, CT

EnviroScience conducted IAQ studies including sampling for bio-aerosols, radon, volatile organic compounds, and formaldehyde at several schools in West Hartford. These studies were performed to assess air quality to identify the cause of the complaints. Remedial actions were taken based on the results of the studies. Also, indoor air testing was conducted to address allergic reactions in two art rooms in the Duffy and Bugby Schools, and sampling was conducted for dust particulates after major renovations at Conard High School to determine possible airborne asbestos.

Archdiocese of Boston
St. Joseph’s Church Babysitting Room
Belmont, MA

EnviroScience was contracted by the Archdiocese of Boston to investigate mold contamination in the Babysitting Room (daycare) of St. Joseph’s Church located in Belmont, MA. The room had been closed for a period of several months prior to the involvement of EnviroScience. The Archdiocese required action to address concerns of apparent mold growth on walls, furniture, and toys within this finished room in the basement. EnviroScience developed a comprehensive program for testing, design and remediation of mold.

CREC- Two Rivers Middle Magnet School
East Hartford, CT

Built in 2001, the School has hollow-core decking over the gymnasium to attenuate noise to the classrooms above. Due to construction defects and environmental conditions, biodegradable materials in the core received water damage with resultant suspect mold growth. EnviroScience performed air and bulk mold sampling to determine the identity of the mold, to determine the extent of exposure to occupy spaces, and to establish baseline levels for post-repair sampling. After repair of the hollow-core decking, EnviroScience repeated the sampling and this served to demonstrate successful control of spore emissions.

New Haven County Superior Courthouse
New Haven, CT

Built in 1915, the courthouse is a large building in the Greco-Roman style finished in marble and decorative ceilings. Over the years it has experienced damage due to roof leaks and other water intrusion and has an inadequate ventilation system. In response to a water leak event in the winter of 2005, the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch secured EnviroScience to perform a building-wide survey for indoor air quality and mold damage. EnviroScience also performed asbestos and lead paint surveys of the building. EnviroScience prepared specifications for removal of visible mold and monitored its removal.
